The main attraction for tourists visiting Goa are of
course the beaches of Goa but Goa has a lot more to offer. There are
wonderful churches, temples, markets and of course the river cruises
available during particular times of the year.
Churches of Goa
Basilica of Bom Jesus
Situated in Old Goa and built in
1605, Basilica of Bom Jesus has now been declared a World Heritage
Monument. The church houses the sacred relics of St. Francis Xavier,
patron saint of Goa, who died while on a sea voyage to China. The
following year, while transferring his remains to Goa, in accordance
with his wishes, it was found that the saint's body was as fresh as the
day it was buried. This miraculous phenomenon continues to attract the
devout of all lands and an Exposition or public viewing of his body
every ten years attracts lakhs of pilgrims.
Other famous churches of Goa include
the Se Cathederal, Church of St. Francis of Assisi and Church of our
Lady of Rosary.
Temples of Goa
Some of the famous temples of Goa
includes the Brahma Temple, one of the few in the World dedicated to
Lord Brahma, the creator of the Universe. Others include the Sri
Chandreshwar Temple with the famous Shiva Linga. The Devaki
Krishna Temple houses the beautiful and unusual image in black
stone of the baby Krishna on his mother, Devaki's hip.
Water Sports in Goa
Goa provides some of the best
facilities to enjoy water sports for tourists. The tourists can go for
various water sports like the wind surfing. Wind surfing boards are
available at almost all good hotels and resorts in Goa. Other sports
available include the dinghy sailing and the water scooter. Scuba diving
is also avialble at some places.
